Where It All Started
When Prehistoric Pets originally opened its doors as Pet Country in 1988, our mission was to provide both traditional and exotic pets to the public. As our customer base grew, we took the opportunity to shift our focus to education with exotic reptiles from around the globe. In 1995 we expanded further creating Jurassic Parties whose goal is to further the public’s understanding and respect for reptiles through interactive educational events. In 2000 and 2018 success allowed expansion to it’s current size of 13,000 square feet with an inventive set-up that was the first of its kind. Designed by founder Jay Brewer, the aim was to create a zoo-like atmosphere with the philosophy “build it and they will come.” This philosophy proved correct and even more new customers started visiting the store solely to observe exotic reptiles, many of which were not displayed at even the largest of zoos.
Since its founding on July 10, 2009 The Reptile Zoo has provided the community a unique educational facility which houses reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids from around the world. These animals each have their own story; some are rescues, many were born at The Reptile Zoo, and others were part of private collections. Here guests can learn about these rare animals first-hand with interactive displays and presentations. Through the guidance of our handlers, guests learn proper handling techniques, basic facts about each animal, and gain an increased appreciation for what it takes to care for these animals.
In addition to our efforts to further the public’s understanding and respect for reptiles at The Reptile Zoo, for over 20 years we have continued to serve the community with Jurassic Parties. Offering to date over 20,000 educational interactive events that are both fun and meaningful for all guests across Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

For more than 30 years, Prehistoric Inc. has been powered by a passionate and diverse team of reptile enthusiasts. Many team members have been with the company for over five years—and some for more than 15. Today, our growing team of over 50 individuals includes several members of the founding Brewer family. Each member brings a unique passion and specialized skill set, forming a collaborative and well-rounded group committed to reptile care, education, and conservation.
Headquartered in Fountain Valley, California, Prehistoric Inc. has proudly provided employment opportunities to more than 100 individuals and their families over the decades—supporting the local community while continuing to inspire reptile lovers across the globe.
